We are looking for actors to fill two roles in the upcoming play "Welcome to Ramallah" to be presented at Swedenborgh Hall in September of 2012 (four weekends). Directed by Paola Hornbuckle. Directorial Consultant George Bailey.
In "Welcome to Ramallah," by Sonja Linden and Adah Kay, two Palestinian men, Daoud and his uncle Salim, and two Jewish sisters, Nat and Mara, get trapped in an apartment in Ramallah in the Palestinian Territories. They are forced to confront the painful history of Israel's occupation and take over of Palestinian land and how it affected their families throughout the generations.
Open Roles:
Nat - mid forties to mid fifties, Jewish. She is the uptight, anxious and controlling older sister of Mara, whom she is visiting in Ramallah. She cannot understand why Mara wants to live in Ramallah and even worse, sympathise with the Palestinian cause. She is a strong supporter and defender of Israel.
Daoud - late 30s-40s Palestinian man, in love with Mara. He is torn between his desire to honor the Palestinian cause and his family comittments, and a desire to leave and live in peace in the West. He is strong, loyal to his family, and kind.
Auditions will take place on Wed June 27 at 8 p.m at the Green Room at Twiggs Coffee House on 4590 Park Blvd across from Diversionary Theatre. The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring headshots and resumes. There is a stipend.
